$5 REQUIRED ART FEE FOR 7th and 8th GRADERS

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The EWM visual arts program offers a comprehensive, hands-on art experience . We experiment in well-known media such as painting, drawing, printmaking,ceramics,  and graphic design.  We spend quality time problem solving and using our creative thinking skills. Students also enjoy learning more about the Elements and Principles of Art and Art History.  

GOALS OF VISUAL ARTS EDUCATION

A.      Create artwork based on the elements of art and the principles of art. 

B.      Use the elements and principles of art to create original artwork. 

C.      Recognize, compare and use different media to create their artwork. 

D.      Develop a respect and appreciation for the artwork of artists, including classmates. 

E.       Create representational and abstract art.

F.       Learn to create depth in a 2-Dimensional artwork using different techniques. 

G.      Recognize and compare differences in several art mediums. 

H.      Communicate thoughts, feelings, and experiences to others through art. 

I.        Understand terms that are basic to art media, procedures, and techniques. 

J.        Maintain a portfolio for a weekly drawing assignment to develop their drawing skills.

GRADING PLAN

Coursework will be weighed as follows: 

1. Art Projects - 50% 

2. Portfolio - 20% 

3. Participation - 30% 

ART PROJECTS 
Approximately every 2 weeks, an art project will be presented. Final project grade will be based on following directions, originality, craftsmanship, and effort. Students will be given ample time to complete their projects. A due date will be given when the project is presented. Projects count as 50% of your total art grade.
 
PORTFOLIO
Students are required to work daily in their portfolio. Specific portfolio assignments will be given weekly. Portfolio counts as 20% of your total art grade.
 
PARTICIPATION GRADE 
Students will be given a weekly 10 point participation grade. Points can be deducted if any of the following occur:
  • More than one verbal warning for not following the Art Room Expectations
  • Unexcused tardy
  • Bad attitude or being disrepectful
  • Not showing any effort
  • Causing a class disruption
ART ROOM EXPECTATIONS
  1. Show RESPECT!
  2. Use supplies appropriately.
  3. Be prepared with your required supplies.
  4. Clean up after yourself.
  5. Be creative and use your imagination.
REWARDS
Picasso Passes are incentives students can use and earn daily. Each student is AUTOMATICALLY given one the first week of classes for bringing back their signed syllabus and for bringing any extra supplies from the wish list. 
 
PICASSO PASSES ARE EARNED BY:
  • Doing something EXTRA nice for someone and not telling anyone.
  • Going above and beyond expectations.
  • Putting forth SUPER effort.
  • Being EXTRA focused and quiet.
PICASSO PASSES ARE USED FOR: 
  • Receive an extra day to complete projects
  • Supplies or privileges
  • Candy
  • Extra Device Time
  • Sit with a friend
  • Extra Computer Time
FREE FRIDAY
Students will have a chance to create without boundaries if they are awarded a FREE FRIDAY. Every Friday, IF THEY HAVE COMPLETED THEIR PROJECT AND SKETCHBOOK ASSIGNMENTS, they will be given a chance to explore many artistic outlets. They can use the computers for exploring digital art, photography, Photoshop, use mediums they love such as paints, or just have a chance to free draw in their portfolios. Students are only awarded this privilege if they are well behaved ALL WEEK.
